Release notes

0.9.26

2026-09-25

Grammar: 1.113 macOS 14 or newer AI spec for this build

Work on several files at once, each with its own tables, fields and scripts, and paste whatever your AI gave you, readable script text or raw FileMaker XML. One hotkey, and the reference check knows which file you are pasting into.

Security: this release includes security hardening. Updating is recommended.

Added

  • Several files open at once, each with a different schema. Paste into any file's Script Workspace and the plug-in checks the references against that file, the one the steps actually land in, and names it in the warning comment. Before, only FileMaker's current file was checked, and pasting into another file's Script Workspace switched the check off.
  • Copy whatever your AI produced. Readable script text in the FMScriptBridge format or a raw fmxmlsnippet: the same hotkey, the same reference check, the same warnings, and both paste as real steps. XML with a mistyped step name is repaired from FileMaker's own list and counted; a script header missing its flags is completed.
  • Reference checks now work for accounts that are not Full Access. What your account cannot see is exactly what FileMaker discards on paste, so it is reported. Before, the check was silently skipped for those accounts.
  • A [Copy error] button on the conversion-failed alert puts the message on the clipboard, ready to paste into your AI chat next to the script.
  • Every release's AI writing guide is published on the site at /spec/v<version>.md, and /spec.md always shows the current release's. FMSB_CopyAISpec hands you the guide for your build, and when a corrected guide is published for your version the plug-in picks it up on its daily check, so a fix reaches you without a new build. That check now also tells the site your plug-in version, nothing else; the privacy page says so.

Improved

  • A chat reply that arrives split into several fenced sections pushes, and a backtick wrapper around the whole reply is removed automatically, nested ones too.
  • A multi-line calculation written without its fence, the way FileMaker displays it, is read when it closes clearly at the step's bracket.
  • Show Custom Dialog written as a block with a plain title and message, and input fields with their labels on the following lines, pushes.
  • Set Variable written without its Value: label, or with the label on its own line, is accepted. Go to Related Record and New Window accept FileMaker's curly quotes around table and layout names.
  • The AI spec now teaches Go to Related Record, Set Window Title and Export Records in their minimal forms, renders correctly in any markdown reader, and says exactly how a fence closer must look; a closer that nearly matches is named in the refusal.
  • When the reference check cannot run because FileMaker cannot tell which file you are pasting into, the warning says so and tells you what to click.
  • The conversion-failed alert fits long messages and its text can be selected.

Fixed

  • The update check could offer a version that was not published yet; it now offers only builds that exist.
  • A script using a plug-in the target machine does not have refused to paste as XML; it pastes now.
  • Show Custom Dialog's one-line Input spelling swallowed the next item into the target field and pasted it silently; it now reads correctly, and every similar slot refuses rather than guessing.
  • The AI spec's sentence about empty-bracket If, Else If, Exit Loop If and Loop forms was wrong; it now matches what the plug-in accepts.
  • FMSB_CopyAISpec evaluated in the Data Viewer reported a refusal even though the spec was already on the clipboard; it now reports success.

Known issues

  • When you paste into a file other than FileMaker's current one, the calculation syntax check does not run and the warning says so. FileMaker's current file is the one whose data window you last clicked; switching between Script Workspaces does not change it. For the full check, click that file's data window, then open its Script Workspace and push again.
  • The hidden-credential notice can appear on a step that reads a token out of a JSON settings object ("Bearer " & JSONGetElement ( … )). It is a notice to check that line, not a redaction; nothing is changed in your text.

FileMaker's own quotes and display forms convert as written, the secret scan is faster and catches far more, refusals say why, and the reference check matches names the way FileMaker does.

Security: this release includes security hardening. Updating is recommended.

Added

  • Added support for curly quotes. Applies to script, layout, menu set and table names.
  • More of FileMaker's general display forms are accepted when pushing to FM. For example Open File, Close File or Re-Login written with just the file name.
  • A pushed Trigger Claris Connect Flow step gets a dedicated warning comment above it: FileMaker cannot check a flow name on paste (the flow list lives behind your Claris ID sign-in), so a wrong name pastes silently.
  • If a password sits inside a calculation the secret scan cannot read (a Case, an If, a concatenation), the copy now tells you which step to check before sharing. Nothing is changed in your text.

Improved

  • The secret scan on copy is far faster: a very large copy that used to spend minutes in the scan now takes about a second.
  • The secret scan recognises many more credential shapes: passwords passed to BaseElements and MBS plug-in functions (FTP, SQL, cURL, SMTP, LDAP, PDF encryption, OAuth and more), passwords inside connection strings, private keys, and variables named like secrets ($jwtToken, $hmacKey, $licenseKey). It no longer flags masking code such as Substitute ( … ; "password" ; "********" ).
  • A refused push names the actual cause, for example a trailing // comment on a step line or a wrongly spaced ; separator, instead of only naming the step. Messages are shorter; the accepted forms live in the AI writing guide.
  • The reference check before pasting matches names the way FileMaker does: scripts and layouts exactly (case and accents matter), fields and tables regardless of case.
  • The AI writing guide (FMSB_CopyAISpec) now names the plug-in version it is written for and adds rules for the mistakes AI assistants most often make.
  • Configure > License shows the Machine ID shortened (35fb…13f0), like the license key; Copy still copies the whole id.

Fixed

  • In a file with accented script, layout, table or field names, the reference check stayed silent for every reference of that kind; a script or layout name typed with different case (ORDERS for a script named Orders) passed the check and pasted as <unknown>.
  • Three false "not found" warnings removed: FileMaker's own <Current Table> placeholder, a script performed from another file, and the fields of a table whose lookup came back empty (which also wrongly said FileMaker would disable the calculation).
  • A push with a typo in a long script could freeze FileMaker for tens of seconds while the failing line was located; it now takes a fraction of a second.
  • A beta license offered no place to enter a bought key. Register is now offered alongside Deregister.
  • The release-a-machine field accepted an empty entry, which released the machine you were sitting at with no confirmation; it now requires a machine id.
  • A step the plug-in does not know, a preserved block with broken XML, or folders nested 200 deep ended the conversion with an internal message and no line; each now refuses at its line, or says plainly what the limit is.
  • Paste as skeleton refused without a line number, and text with old Mac line endings collapsed into one line and pasted an empty snippet with a success message.

Known issues

  • The hidden-credential notice can appear on a step that reads a token out of a JSON settings object ("Bearer " & JSONGetElement ( … )). It is a notice to check that line, not a redaction; nothing is changed in your text.

FileMaker's own words for every option, more of FileMaker's own spellings accepted when pushing, and a hardened plug-in. Updating is strongly recommended.

Security: this release includes security hardening. Updating is strongly recommended.

Added

  • Text written the way FileMaker displays it converts without edits: positional step forms, empty-bracket steps, Show Custom Dialog [ title ; message ].
  • Scripts and folders indent their contents in the converted text.

Improved

  • Every option now uses FileMaker's own words: Verify SSL Certificates, Match case, Serial numbers, Zoom In, Geofence, Replace & Find and more. Text written with the previous wording still pushes.
  • Conversion messages say exactly what to fix and show the accepted forms of the step.
  • The AI writing guide (FMSB_CopyAISpec) is shorter and stricter, and covers the new option names.

Fixed

  • A calculation inside pushed text could be evaluated by FileMaker during the pre-paste check.
  • Disabling and re-enabling the plug-in without restarting FileMaker stopped conversions and could crash FileMaker.
  • Very large pushes could freeze FileMaker.
  • Install Menu Set with the standard FileMaker menus pasted as the file default.
  • Enter Find Mode [ ] pasted with Pause off instead of on.
  • A missing space after a colon (Records:5) could silently change a step's meaning.
  • A mid cut-off script no longer pastes as half a script.
  • Two false warnings removed: FileMaker's own empty steps, and a one-line Parameters option on the AI steps.

Grammar: 1.108 macOS 14 or newer AI spec for this build

Pushed scripts are now checked against the target file before pasting. Missing references and calculations that won't compile are flagged before FileMaker silently disables them.

Added

  • Reference check before pasting: the fields, tables, layouts and scripts are checked against the file you're pasting into. Anything that won't resolve gets a warning comment above the exact step, and a panel lets you paste with warnings, paste as-is, or cancel.
  • Calculation check before pasting: every calculation is test-parsed by FileMaker's own engine, so a typo or a custom function the target file doesn't have is flagged with FileMaker's error number and reason.

Improved

  • Better handling of large scripts: a long conversion shows its progress and keeps working while you do something else. When it finishes it checks if you have changed the focus or have newer clipboard content and gives you full control of your next steps.
  • Grammar and syntax improvements
  • Improvements to the plugin configuration panel

Turn sample JSON into a ready-to-wire FileMaker script, and script text that reads exactly like FileMaker.

Added

  • New calculation function FMSB_JSONToLoopSteps: give it sample JSON and it returns a complete, readable script that loops your records and composes that JSON. Wire your fields into the marked SET THIS lines, set the gate to True, and push it into FileMaker with the convert hotkey.
  • Support for default options: most script steps now accept partial settings, and the rest get FileMaker's default values.

Improved

  • Bracketed options can be written in any order when pushing text back. Helpful when the initial text was generated by an AI assistant.
  • Grammar and syntax improvements.

Credit: the JSON conversion functions grew from the JSON to JSONSetElement idea in alitfal's open-source filemaker-vscode extension. Thanks to its author.
